L'última novel·la que va escriure Virginia Woolf, acabada pocs mesos abans de suïcidar-se. L'autora la considerava la seva novel·la més ambiciosa i és una porta d'entrada excel·lent a l'obra de Woolf, ja que malgrat la seva brevetat hi concentra tots els temes de la seva narrativa.
